In A Life Of Routines, Have A Day Without One - Why?

We're creatures of routine.

We love routines so much, our days are a routine without even knowing it.

The only difference is, some routines are good, while some are relatively less productive. (not that I'm judging)

I Have One Problem With Routines

They make you forget that life isn't about doing things all the time in a consistent manner without fail. They make you monotonous.

The thing with life is that, shit happens. Stuff happens out of nowhere. Routines can't do much in these instances.

Have A Day Without A Routine

  • Plan a day where you do things differently
This includes different places, different activities and ideas

  • Reduce the familiarity in your day as much as possible
Visit a place you haven't in a while or try a cuisine you haven't explored yet

Why?

It's simple. When doing things differently, you become more mindful. You're present in the moment because you're experiencing new things.

We're so lost in our monotony that we fail to appreciate being in the present. The smallest things make such a difference.

“I want to caution you against the idea that balance has to be a routine that looks the same week in and week out.” ― Kevin Thoman
